The Dodo is a flightless bird that was endemic to the island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The dodo's closest genetic relative was the also-extinct Rodrigues solitaire, the two forming the subfamily Raphinae of the family of pigeons and doves.

In the Series 4 episode "New Arrivals", a small flock of Dodo came through the portal from Late Holocene Mauritius, 400 years ago after the portal somehow opened.

Era & Discovery[]

The dodo was first discovered by the Portuguese when they came to Mauritius in 1507. Although the bird was first documented in 1598 when Dutch explorers arrived on the island. Ever since the first discovery it was believe to be a slow and clumsy bird.

Physical Attributes[]

The Dodo stood 1 metre tall and weighed 39 pounds, making them the largest of the flightless pigeons.

The Dodo had a massive beak which they used to grab fruit and eat, as well as to fight off rivals during the mating season. Unlike in the early drawings where it was shown as a clumsy and unintelligent species, this bird had a level of intelligence comparable to modern pigeons due to Mauritius being a predator-free island ecosystem.
