Homo sapiens idaltu is a subspecies of Homo sapiens that lived almost 160,000 years ago in Pleistocene Africa. "Idaltu" is from the Saho-Afar word meaning "elder" or "first born".
In the Series 4 episode "New Arrivals", a family of Homo Sapiens Idaltu were seen in Late Pleistocene Africa, 160,000 years ago. The family was struggling because of a devastating drought that is caused by the Ice Age further in the north. Like the Cro-Magnons, the Homo Sapiens Idaltu were allowed to live in the park which keeps their kin from the brink of extinction.
