Kurī is the Māori name for the extinct Polynesian dog. It was introduced to New Zealand by the Polynesian ancestors of the Māori during their migration from East Polynesia in the 13th century AD.

In the Series 4 episode "The End of Eden", Allen and the team saw a few Kurīs when they came across the Māori when they through New Zealand 850 years ago. However, unlike their owners who came to the island, several Kurīs were rescued and brought back into the park and being adopted by the entire staff and most of them gotten use of being around Allen's dog Caine.
