Land of Giants is the fourth episode of Series 2 and the fourteenth episode of Prehistoric Earth: A Natural History.
Synopsis[]
The team travels back in time to the Late Jurassic to bring back the giants of the era, including the mighty sauropod, also known as Diplodocus. At the same time, they try to rescue the Jurassic's fourth apex predator: Allosaurus.
Plot[]
The park is doing well bringing back prehistoric animals, especially many of the park's newcoming dinosaurs that Allen began rescuing. He heads to Joanna's office and tells her that he going to rescue the massive sauropods of the late Jurassic, with the primary one being a Diplodocus. Allen also informs his boss that he will also rescue a large theropod known as Allosaurus. The team opens the portal and heads into North America during the Late Jurassic where they found themselves in a forest. As they walk through the forest, the team spots a flock of ornithopod dinosaurs running through the woods.
Allen and the group soon stumble upon a Diplodocus nest, where Allen's dog Caine sniffs at some of the eggs. Allen then realized that the nest was discovered by an egg thief. He soon found their egg thief, a small Ornitholestes, who was eating a baby Diplodocus that was in the egg it stole. The team sees several Diplodocus babies coming out of the ground. The Ornitholestes still eats the killed hatchling. The hatchlings then head deep into the forest to hide from the predators that dwell in it. The team rescues a female Ornitholestes and a male Ornitholestes, bringing them back to the park.
Later, while still trekking through the forest, the team comes across the skeleton of an adult Diplodocus. Allen and his team decided to go out into the open plains to find adult Diplodocus so they can bring a single herd of them back to the present. While exploring the open fern prairies, the group see many different kinds of dinosaurs and eventually stumbles across a large herd of Diplodocus migrating across the plains. They also spot a flock of small Anurognathus, who are roaming around the Diplodocus herd, feasting on damselflies on the sauropods' massive bodies. The team rescues the Anurognathus flock, a herd of Camarasaurus, a herd of Barosaurus, and alongside a group of Comodactylus, and put them into their enclosure such as the park's new sauropod enclosure.
The team later arrives in a small canyon, where they see a group of juvenile Diplodocus who were feasting on moss and ferns, which grew on the canyon walls by moisture. The group soon comes across an armored plated dinosaur, a Stegosaurus, one of the most famous dinosaurs in the world. Allen saw that it was coming to the canyon to drink water at a small stream. Allen heads back to the group of young Diplodocus, where he eventually spots one of the other dinosaurs they came looking for, a pair of Allosaurus who were hunting for food. The Diplodocus youngsters flee with two of them being killed, one by the female Allosaurus, and the other by the Stegosaurus, after the dinosaur kills the youngster by swings it's spiked tail.
The male Allosaurus prepares to attack the Stegosaurus, but is backed down when the herbivore flushes blood into its plates which made a frightening display of color. The Allosaurus pair spots the team, and they chase them until the group of humans escape. Allen decides to rescue the Stegosaurus and bring it back to the present and has the team gather a few of them to take back to the park. After rescuing the group of Stegosaurus, Allen and his group now goes to rescue a herd of Diplodocus and bring them back to the park. The group found a Diplodocus herd consisting of six adults and three juveniles migrating to find food, with Allen and his group rescuing the herd. Suddenly, the team comes across the largest dinosaur of the Jurassic: a Brachiosaurus.
Allen rescues several brachiosaurs and brings them back to the present where they were put into the sauropod enclosure with their relatives. Later Allen talks to Rebecca and explains that toward the end of the Triassic and the beginning of the Jurassic Pangea began to break up and become the seven continents that are found today and the climate was much wetter than what happened during the Triassic era.
